Why Ankara is the capital of turkey

Preface: if you don't know why Istanbul is not the capital of Turkey, google that, as this is a different question.

-----

This question is hard to find the answer to. In fact, I never did find the answer, and had to do the digging myself.

Basra, Izmir, Trabzon, Samsun, Antalya, Adana, and Antakya were all in danger of enemy occupation.

Ankara, Kayseri, and Konya were the only 3 logical choices.

Kayseri was much smaller than either Ankara or Konya at the time, and, was further east, and further away from the centre of Turkish culture and the economy. (and the rail network for that matter)

Konya, however, was in many ways a more logical choice. So why not Konya?

First off, the city had a larger Greek population. Secondly, the city was assigned to Italy's sphere of influence, and as such, there was a risk that it too could fall to an enemy.

Hence Ankara beats out the other 2 options.

During the war against Greece, Turkey even was ready to move to Kayseri as a backup capital, but the army held the line.

so THAT is why Ankara is the capital of Turkey, and not any of the other cities listed.
