Journal - 2019W48

Apparently, its week 48. There's a whole ISO-8601 about it.

Anyway, it should be obvious by now I decided to start keeping a journal. I dunno, its just nice to have a record of shit. A place to write down what has happened and my thoughts. It's not a diary; so don't expect to hear about my feelings too often.

Not much happened this week. I played some factorio, but am getting bored of it. Want to play more Stellaris but want to wait for the expansion. Am cooling a lot on linux as a lot of games don't seem to work the way I want to (Mass Effect for example) as my potato of a computer, which can run these games in windows, seemingly can not run them in linux.  Additionally, other games were discovered in previous weeks to not work for the same reason (Skyrim, Fallout NV) and games that previously did work, now do not work after being updated (RTK13) which is extremely upsetting as I switched to linux after checking of that specific game worked.

I've finally finished listening to the dune audiobooks. Man brian is a god awful writer; or maybe its kevin, either way, dear god. As such I've begun to dig into the youtube backlog. Down from roughly 150 to about 110 as I write this. I don't want to totally eliminate it, as I'd like to have some left as a 'float' for the holiday season.

I dunno if Simon takes time off for xmas, can't remember from previous years; but he does daily videos, so if he takes 1 day off, thats 1 video I miss. If he takes a week off, thats 7! James might take time off, so there goes 2 videos. I've not been watching many lets plays, but Jon and Steve both prob will take some time off. Alex and Matt might also take time off, they do 2 videos a week. Devin often makes good videos. Even streamers, Gregor and Matt, will be taking time off.

Like. Its fine if one of em wants a week off or even a month. Hell both Gregor and Matt have taken breaks recently and that's fine. The problem is when Simon and James and Jon and Steve and Alex and Matt and Gregor and Matt all want time off at the same time! Suddenly I go from 'enough regular entertainment content to keep me content' to 'massive deficit' in no time.

It's not so bad as it was when I watched TV. Still though, it would be good to keep a reserve around. Ironically, not having been watching lets plays may be my way out; as if things get dicey, I can fire up some entire series that I've not seen and have hours of new content ready and waiting.

My life tends to be a bit like that. Bingeful in nature... Bingey?? anyway. I tend to put a certain amount of time - lets say 6 hours a day - into one activity and do that again and again and again, day after day after day, until I get bored of it, and move on to a new activity to sink 6 hours a day into. Recently that's been Factorio coupled with listening to the Dune audiobooks. Now that Dune is done and Factorio is getting a bit boring for me, I'm probably going to move on to other things, but what. No idea at this time. We'll find out together.
